My name is Stefanie Nesmith. I am a Holistic Counselor serving English-speaking clients in my practice in Stuttgart, Germany as well as in online sessions. I use holistic methods – incorporating mind, body and spirit – to promote growth and transformation.
I work with individual adults and couples. Drawing from the various modalities I am trained in I help clients who experience depression, anxiety, grief, burn-out, relationship and parenting issues. I furthermore support clients in finding their life-purpose and mastering life-changing events such as divorce, job-loss, parenthood or moving to and living in another country.
This website informs you about the services I provide and the approach I take in working with clients. To contact me for an appointment, please go here.
Clients who come to me often have a deep sense that there must be more to life than what they are experiencing right now. They have fears, anxiety or low self-esteem that keeps them stuck and dissatisfied but they don’t know how to move forward. They are feeling overwhelmed, tired and low on energy. They have struggles that are recurring and they don’t seem to be able to solve them once and for all. They are feeling physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually exhausted or they are restless and ambitious but don’t know how to channel this energy. They sometimes feel alone and disconnected from their authentic-self; isolated and misunderstood, lacking deep connections.
These inner incongruencies manifest as depression, anxiety, relationship issues and dissatisfaction at the workplace and in personal life. In the therapeutic process those struggles are used as a steppingstone for growth and transformation to reach a place where the client can move into more joy, love and fulfillment.
The initial appointment gives you the opportunity to address the issue you are seeking counseling for and to get to know each other. Since a successful therapy depends largely on the client-counselor relationship it is important that you honor any feeling you might have that we are not a good match. If this should be the case, I will provide you with a referral list to other English-speaking counselors.
I provide a caring and accepting therapeutic setting where all thoughts and feelings are allowed to be expressed. The person-centered talk-therapy gives clients the chance for self-exploration: to get in touch with who they really are; to uncover and let go of long held, limiting beliefs and trust their own inner wisdom and guidance; to release long-buried negative emotions and to uncover the truth about their magnificence.
The 50-minute sessions are initially scheduled weekly or bi-weekly and can be spaced out more as the therapeutic process moves along.
The fee for one session is Euro 100 and is to be paid after each session. Clients are responsible for the payment and can try to get reimbursed by their health insurance provider. However, most insurances might not cover my services and I do not accept the German Krankenkasse.
I believe that struggles are opportunities to grow, transform and move forward in our life. We are never given any task that we can’t handle. Instead of thinking that there is something very wrong when we experience challenges and struggles, I see it as signs that we are outgrowing certain beliefs or behavioral patterns that are holding us back and it is time to replace them with new beliefs and behaviors that are more in alignment with our true self.
An important step in this journey is to develop a deep sense of love and appreciation for yourself. Many of us are already experts in loving and appreciating other people in our life, but we need to learn how to do the same for ourselves. Once you know your own self-worth and lovability you will not have to spend precious energy on trying to control how others see you. You will give yourself and everyone around you the freedom to be who they are which leads to significant improvement in your relationships, your personal and your professional life.
Part of this process is getting to know yourself better – mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Therefore, I address all these different areas as needed in my work with clients to replace self-critical and limiting beliefs with empowering and hopeful beliefs; to release painful emotions in order to access our innate joy; and to open up to the inner wisdom that our soul has for each of us.
I see my work as a sacred privilege to being able to support you in your journey towards a life that is rooted in your authentic self – expressing your truth, finding your innate joy and living your dreams!
Upon earning an MBA in Germany I worked for a non-profit foundation in Washington, D.C. and then decided, after dedicating some time to my family, to turn my life-long passion for mental health and personal growth into my profession and earned a degree in Counseling from The George Washington University.
I passed the National Certified Counselor’s exam in 2012 and got certified by the Global Association of Holistic Psychotherapy in 2014. I follow the ethical standards of the National Board of Certified Counselors and the guidelines for the German Heilpraktiker Psychotherapie.
In addition to my counselor training I have received training in Carl-Rogers Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Grief Counseling, Inner Child Work, Breathwork, Mindfulness, Meditation and Energy Psychology.
